Taka Makassar: A Little Slice of Paradise in the Flores Sea
Taka Makassar is a small sandbar located within Komodo National Park, near Labuan Bajo on Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.
Although its name includes the word “Makassar,” this beautiful destination is not located in Makassar City, South Sulawesi. The name is believed to have originated from Bugis–Makassar sailors who once frequently passed through and stopped in this area.
An Exotic Gem in the Middle of the Flores Sea
Among the stunning islands of Komodo National Park lies a charming stretch of white sand known as Taka Makassar. It has become one of the favorite destinations for travelers visiting Labuan Bajo.
Its beauty lies in the contrast between the soft white sand and the breathtaking gradient of ocean colors. On a clear day, the scenery looks like a perfect natural painting.
What Makes Taka Makassar Special
Crescent-Shaped Sandbar
Taka Makassar is not a permanent island, but a sandbar that appears during low tide. Its unique crescent shape and relatively small size allow visitors to walk around it in just a few minutes.
Crystal-Clear Waters
One of its main attractions is the stunning gradient of sea colors — from light blue to turquoise and deep blue. The clear water invites visitors to swim or simply relax and enjoy the refreshing sea.
Great Snorkeling Spot Near Manta Point
Taka Makassar is located near popular snorkeling spots, including Manta Point, where visitors often have the chance to see majestic manta rays swimming freely. For this reason, it is usually included as a stop in island hopping tours around Komodo National Park.
How to Get to Taka Makassar
Visitors usually depart from Labuan Bajo by tourist boat, either through an open trip or a private trip.
The sea journey takes approximately 1–2 hours, depending on the type of boat and weather conditions.
Best Time to Visit
The dry season, from April to October, is the best time to visit Taka Makassar, as the weather is generally sunny and the sea is calmer.
However, visitors are always advised to check the weather conditions before departure to ensure a safe and comfortable trip.
